This church in Erle has a patron saint's name that is truly on everyone's lips, but only a few will know the person behind it: Saint Sylvester's commemoration day is December 31st. He lived at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth century and was Bishop of Rome when Emperor Constantine recognized Christianity as a religion with the Edict of Milan - known as the "Edict of Toleration" - and thus ended (at least temporarily) the period of bloody persecution of Christians.

It is wonderful to stroll around the Schermbeck mill ponds – completely relaxed in the shade of the trees. Paths lead in wide sections directly along the bank. In the past, the ponds regularly froze over in winter and served entire generations as an ice skating rink. In the warmer seasons, they are a playground and haven for ducks and swans. The view across the water to bright rows of birch trees and the dense branches of weeping willows, dipping their twig tips into the pond, has something immensely calming about it. No matter how life around the pond changes every day – here everything remains the same as swans calmly trace their circles. https://www.wir-sind-schermbeck.de/tourismus/sehenswertes/219-muehlenteich
