The beautiful old town of Ortenberg is simply outstanding! A stroll through the cobblestone streets and the old half-timbered houses are worth seeing. Unfortunately, you can only find a few eateries and cafes there.

From the barbecue and rest area at the edge of the forest, the view extends far into the southern Wetterau – towards Friedberg, Bad Nauheim, and in clear weather, all the way to the Großer Feldberg in the Taunus. The spot is ideal for a short break. Or perhaps a dance instead? Since 1807, the Wäldchestag, a colorful folk festival under a green canopy of leaves, has been held annually in the neighboring Ossenheimer Wäldchen.

In the Nidderauen nature reserve near Stockheim, your gaze quickly wanders upwards. The white stork breeds in the crowns of the deadwood. Numerous stork families find their home here. Their impressive nests can be easily observed from the roadside. But lapwings, snipes, and tree frogs also share this species-rich area, which was placed under special protection as early as 1981. The course of the Nidder was partially renatured in 2005, and in the process, a wide network of still waters was created, serving as a retreat for resting birds.

Hi everyone, a quick tip: The Niddaroute is not, as is incorrectly described here, a bike path where you can "really put your foot on it," but rather a footpath and bike path where pedestrians have priority. So always be careful. ;-)
