The storm surge in October 2023 undermined around 40 old trees on the wooded cliffs between Neuendorf and Wreechen, causing them to collapse and tumble over the beach toward the water. This is a striking reminder of why people are always warned against getting too close to the edge of the cliffs. City officials have decided against clearing them. The trees will remain there as natural coastal protection. It looks spectacular anyway.
