When the Thirty Years' War ended, the villages and surrounding fields around Sasbachwalden, as well as in other regions of the Black Forest, lay in rubble and ashes. The population was almost wiped out by the passage of plundering and pillaging troops. One often had to walk for hours to encounter a fellow human being. And so it happened that in this place on the heights of the Northern Black Forest near Sasbachwalden, a young man searching for survivors met a woman one day. Out of joy and surprise, he shouted to the heavens: "the old God still lives". The two joined forces, married, and settled in the valley. Many years later, the Bildstock was erected at the spot where the two met. A section of the path offers beautiful views over Sasbachwalden and into the Rhine plain, with benches inviting you to linger.

The Baden winery Alde Gott was founded in 1948 as Alde Gott Winzer eG. Today, 380 winemakers belong to the cooperative, and they cultivate a total of 261 hectares of vineyards. In the Sasbachwalden locations, predominantly Pinot Noir (Blauer Spätburgunder) is grown, along with grape varieties such as Müller-Thurgau and Pinot Gris (Grauer Burgunder).

Arrived in Sasbachwalden yesterday late afternoon for an extended hiking weekend, we chose Schnapsbrunnenweg 2 today, the longer of the two Schnapsbrunnenwege around Sasbachwalden. We started at the Kurhaus "Alde Gott", then it went gently uphill. Again and again, the view opened up into the Rhine plain and towards the Vosges. It was a pleasure to be able to hike here, to which, of course, the lovingly designed Schnapsbrunnen along the route also contributed. The selection of schnapps, liqueurs, cold soft drinks, wine spritzers, and much more, had something for everyone. Of course, we tested all the fountains on the path, the step uphill and downhill became easier from schnapps to schnapps. An all-round successful hike in a beautiful, climatically mild region. The range of activities here is huge, we will definitely come back for another hiking weekend, also due to the short travel time of less than 2 hours........ it was great🚶🏼‍♀️🚶🐕🥾🌞
