Frévent is a municipality in the Pas-de-Calais department. It is an agricultural town located in the valley of the Canche River. Frévent is a very ancient city, recognized by the Counts of St. Pol in 1218. The prestigious Abbey of Cercamp was founded in 1137 and welcomed François 1er in 1537 and ambassadors of the kings of France, England and Spain in 15582. In the 19th century, Baron Fourment turned Frévent into an industrial city with spinning, wool and flax factories and agricultural machinery. Nowadays Frévent is a lively and pleasant city, the center of many small attractive villages. A beautiful leafy park has also been created, where the Moulin Musée Winterberger is also located.

The city concentrates a significant number of economic activities and services: commerce, crafts, etc. The Saint-Paul parish church with its unusual architecture does not go unnoticed. At the beginning of the 20th century, Saint-Pol and the Ternois remained outside the industrial revolution. Only the textile industry and a few agri-food industries are present.

The Green Valleys cycle route does indeed run along the D54, but why not take the D339 and take the château de Cercamp with you?

Osterville's gravel trails offer a varied experience, blending coastal scenery with tranquil woodlands and freshwater ponds. You can expect to ride on multi-use dirt and gravel roads, particularly in areas like the Skunknett River Wildlife Sanctuary and around ponds such as Joshua's Pond and Micah's Pond. Some routes may also incorporate sections with views of Nantucket Sound.
While the listed routes are rated as moderate, the region itself offers multi-use trails that can be enjoyed by families. The East Osterville Road trail, for example, is known as a family-friendly dirt/gravel road. When planning, consider the shorter routes and the overall elevation gain to ensure it suits your family's comfort level.
While riding, you might encounter diverse natural beauty. The region boasts picturesque coastal scenery, serene freshwater ponds like Joshua's Pond and Micah's Pond, and protected woodlands such as the Skunknett River Wildlife Sanctuary. For specific points of interest, consider exploring highlights like Lac de Beugin or the scenic La Comté Waterfall, which are nearby attractions.
Yes, all three featured gravel bike routes in the guide are loops, allowing you to start and end at the same point. For example, you can try the Camblain-Châtelain – Small chapel seen in Diéval loop from Ourton, which offers a moderate ride through varied landscapes.
The Cape Cod area, including Osterville, is generally pleasant for biking from spring through fall. Spring offers blooming landscapes, while fall provides vibrant foliage. Summer can be warm, but coastal breezes often make it enjoyable. Winter conditions might include colder temperatures and potential snow, making some gravel paths less accessible.
The longest route featured in this guide is the St Pol sur Ternoise loop from Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise, covering nearly 30 kilometers with a moderate elevation gain, offering a substantial ride for gravel enthusiasts.
For a shorter gravel biking experience, you could consider the Camblain-Châtelain – Small chapel seen in Diéval loop from Ourton, which is approximately 18 kilometers long. Another option is the St Pol sur Ternoise loop from Herlincourt, which is just under 20 kilometers.
The gravel bike routes highlighted in this guide are all rated as 'moderate' difficulty. This means they are suitable for riders with some experience, offering a good balance of challenge and enjoyment without being overly strenuous.
While the focus of these routes is natural beauty, the broader Cape Cod area is rich in history. Near Osterville, you might find points of interest such as Bours Keep, a historical castle highlight. Exploring the village itself also offers a glimpse into its charming Cape Cod heritage.
