Tips from the Community

January 18, 2025, Scholl Canyon Fire Road (Valle Vista Motorway)

The Scholl Canyon Trail in Glendale, California, is a 2.4-mile out-and-back hike with just under 500 feet of elevation gain. Starting at the end of Valle Vista Drive, you ascend wooden stairs leading to a well-maintained single-track path that transforms into a wide fire road. The trail offers great views of the Los Angeles area, including downtown Los Angeles (on clear days), the Verdugo and San Gabriel Mountains, and, occasionally if you're lucky, the Pacific Ocean. The terrain features several steep sections and there is little to no shade once you're on the fire toad. The trail is dog-friendly, but please keep them leashed. Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood; but read parking signs carefully and please be respectful of local residents when visiting.
