September 13, 2025, Breckenridge City Market

The City Market has a decent variety of groceries, pharmacy and regular things that you might expect in a town store. Prices are acceptable, although Breckenridge is pretty touristy.

At this point, the Burro Trail meets with Crystal Lakes Road. You can hike into Breckenridge via the Burro Trail or to the Spruce Creek Trailhead and Crystal Lakes (other direction) by taking the rough rock road.

This local history museum is the home of Barney Ford, preserved largely as it was in 1882. Ford was an escaped slave, civil rights leader, and businessman. The docents at the museum are very friendly and can talk you through his story.

January 23, 2025, Baldy Road summit

Here the doubletrack road ends, and a singletrack trail winds its way up to the ridge where you can hike to the summit of Bald Mountain. The panoramic views across Breckenridge and the mountains are stunning and reward your efforts. Be sure to keep an eye out for the Iowa Mill and Carbonate Silver Mine down the mountain.

The former prospector town of Breckenridge is now a (ski) resort that offers all the services you are looking for. There are multiple restaurants, accommodations, grocery stores, laundromats, post office, and several outfitters. To get around town, you can use the free shuttles and buses. Even the gondola is free. ;)

Breckenridge sits at the base of Colorado's Tenmile Range and is a mining town turned ski resort town. The historic Main Street is still lined with Victorian houses and storefronts from the late 1800s.
