De Moer is one of the three cores within the municipality of Loon op Zand. Within the municipality, it is the smallest core after Kaatsheuvel and Loon op Zand. De Moer is named after the peat soil that occurred here and the resulting peat extraction, and originated as early as the 14th century. It always remained small, is located at the crossroads of various roads and is mainly characterized by ribbon development. Yet, there is quite some pleasant bustle at certain times. And that has everything to do with those roads and paths because they also include walking routes and cycle paths, where the proximity of the various nature reserves, with first and foremost the Huis ter Heide estate, is essential. The result is that the village is a stopping point for many walkers and cyclists looking for a bite, a drink, or a cup of coffee, with 't Maoske also being a place where locals meet.

Huis ter Heide near de Moer is not far from Tilburg, yet it is an oasis of peace here. It is a versatile area with forest, heathland, and fens. In 1976, Huis ter Heide came into the possession of Natuurmonumenten. What was once a forestry estate with mainly production forest has grown into a rich and vibrant nature reserve over fifty years. The uniform coniferous forest made way for a varied natural forest where plants and animals are once again given ample space. The pine marten once again moves like an acrobat through the treetops, and the badger has also returned to the area. An extensive fen area developed in the southern part. 24 fens have been dug here, which together form a valuable habitat for all sorts of amphibians and birds. Thanks to a nature bridge connecting to the Loonse en Drunense Duinen, the landscape connection has been restored, and animals can move safely and find new habitats and conspecifics. Fun to do. Cross the Kapelsche Veer ferry. Cyclists (and walkers) can use it free of charge. The ferry runs regularly, even in the evenings when we cycle with the ladies.

From this cycle path you have a view of something special: the roller coasters of the Efteling amusement park in Kaatsheuvel.
