The current church is placed under the protection of Saint-Martin-de-Tours, a famous Roman legionary from the 3rd century who cut his coat in two to clothe a poor destitute. Having become a monk, the inhabitants of Tours forced him to become their bishop. The church is located on the site of the old building which is said to date back to the 8th century but no trace of it remains. A new church was rebuilt in 1646. The bell tower was restored after the fire of 1911.

Saint Peter and Saint Paul are the pillars of the Catholic Church, for the Latins and for the Greeks. Disputing and reconciling from the beginning of the Christian era, they showed the example to follow to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth, according to the requirement and the originality of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This church stands in the middle of the countryside, you can see it from afar, it is magnificent! The bell tower in the form of a "bulb", characteristic of the Byzantine style, made it pass for an Orthodox church, while it is just linked to the originality of the architect in 1875. Anecdote of the German occupation: in 1941, the Nazi propaganda filmed a film there ("Threshing wheat in Ukraine") to make believe in an advance of German troops in Ukraine (against the Soviet Union). Until 2011, the church was under the patronage of St. Peter the Apostle. On this date, his patronage was changed to that of Saint-Maximilien-Kolbé (1894-1941), a Polish priest with exceptional charisma, especially in the face of Nazism. Held in the Auschwitz concentration camp, he offered himself to take the place of a father sentenced to death. He was canonized (recognized as a "saint" by the Catholic Church in Rome) in 1982.

And what had to happen happened... a good slide in so much rain 🌧️ typical of the region. And once is not custom, but my "overweight" saved me! I bounced off the ground, with no damage to my bike or me (yes, a little badly anyway, but nothing broken or scratched). In short, the lesson of this story: the paved slopes that lead to road crossings are very dangerous in rainy weather! Above all, do not brake too suddenly! So beware of the speed! 🚧⚠️

Nice passage under the pines near the pond of Dézerseul, in Cesson-Sévigné, and which leads to Vault Martin, then Thorigné-Fouillard, to reach the forest of Rennes. Ideal for taking a break, picnicking, cooling off.
