Beautiful, quiet road. It's really nice to be away from traffic, especially if you're leaving the main road that leads to Lake Matemale.

This is an old road leading up to the Puigmal ski resort from the village of Err. For many years, this road was abandoned until it was resurfaced in 2023. The result is a narrow, perfectly maintained road that takes us from Err to the Cotzé area, where the first remotes of the old ski resort are located, and where it connects with the main climb from St. Leocadie. This section is approximately 5 km at 8.5% uneven terrain, combining steep slopes with rest areas. It traces three beautiful hairpin bends, one of which offers wonderful panoramic views of the French Cerdanya.

It's an idyllic spot in the Conflent area, a remote lake where swimming is not permitted, although it's set up for a picnic with tables and benches. There's also a barbecue and camping area. It's one of the few remote and peaceful spots in the Pyrenees.

It is a town to breathe the tranquility of the mountains in all its expression. It is located halfway between the climb to the Col de la Llosa and the Coll de Jouell, therefore, it is a common stopover for cyclists who cover the Route du Cols. Like any good town, it has a beautiful fountain where we can recharge water for the challenges we are going to face.

It is a small elevation that allows you to connect Railleu and Caudiès-de-Conflent with Aiguatèbia in the most direct way possible. The road is very narrow although it has been recently paved and the asphalt is simply perfect. On the Aiguatèbia slope it is approximately 3 km very hard, although with wonderful views of the valley. You can not lose this!

I totally agree with the title. It is a wonderful high mountain road, with views at the beginning, between forests and pastures later, always quiet, with hardly any type of noise, without cars or motorcycles at high speeds. It is a cycling paradise. Another fact to keep in mind is that this road allows you to trace several different routes, always between Coll de Creu and Coll de la Llosa.

Yes, there are several loop options for no-traffic road cycling. For example, the Estació Puigmal | Cotzé 1830m – Puigmal 2000 loop from Sainte-Léocadie and the Col de la Llose – Beautiful mountain road loop from La Llagonne both offer scenic circular rides.
The routes often pass through the Regional Natural Park of the Catalan Pyrenees, offering stunning views. You might encounter features like the Col de la Llose, or enjoy panoramic vistas towards the Summit of Pic Carlit and its surrounding lakes. The region is known for its granite landscapes and high-altitude scenery.
The high-mountain environment of Égat makes summer and early autumn ideal for road cycling, when passes are clear of snow and weather conditions are generally stable. While some roads may be accessible in winter, conditions can be challenging due to snow and ice, especially at higher altitudes.
Given the moderate to difficult ratings and significant elevation gains of the listed routes, they are generally more suited for experienced cyclists. However, families with older, fit children might enjoy shorter, less strenuous sections or look for dedicated greenways (voies vertes) in the broader region, though specific car-free family routes are not detailed in this guide.
Many routes start from villages or towns that offer public parking. For example, the Col de la Llose from La Llagonne route begins in La Llagonne, and the Osséja – Valcebollere loop starts near Palau-de-Cerdagne, both of which typically have parking facilities available for visitors.
The area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.18 stars. Reviewers often praise the stunning high-mountain scenery, the challenge of the climbs, and the tranquility of the less-trafficked roads, allowing for an immersive cycling experience in the Pyrenees.
While the routes themselves focus on natural landscapes and quiet roads, they often start or pass through small villages and towns in the Cerdagne valley. These locations, such as La Llagonne or Palau-de-Cerdagne, typically offer cafes, bakeries, or small shops where cyclists can refuel before or after their ride.
Public transport options in this high-mountain region can be limited. While some larger towns in the Cerdagne valley might have bus connections, reaching specific starting points like La Llagonne or Sainte-Léocadie directly with a bike might require checking local bus schedules and bike policies in advance. Driving to the starting points is often the most convenient option.
