Kasteel Coninxdonck – centuries-old history in a new guise Behind the elegant facades of Kasteel Coninxdonck lies a history dating back to before 1313. A medieval castle once stood on this site, the foundations of which still lie hidden beneath the current castle. The old castle had a turbulent history and was looted and set on fire during the French Revolution in 1793. In the early 19th century, the site was given new life and the current castle was erected in an elegant Empire style, with whitewashed facades and a characteristic corner tower. The surrounding estate is also worth discovering: a 6.6-hectare historic pleasure garden with a stately linden avenue, castle farm, pond, and special old trees. Today, Coninxdonck once again has a vibrant destination. The former noble country estate serves as a stylish venue for weddings, parties, and events. This centuries-old piece of heritage has thus been given a modern interpretation, while its historical charm has been beautifully preserved.

from 1507 to 1826 the castle was owned by the family of the Baron de Thysebaert et de Gentbrugge. The lords of Coninxdonck were feudally subordinate to the Marquis of Rode. From 1767 it was leased to Lord Alexis Grent de Caillebert.

Between the Kluizen reservoir and the village center of Sleidinge, you walk on gravel through the fields the entire time. You have to share the path with gravel bikers, but, following the call that @Elias made earlier: they will surely take the presence of hikers into account and undoubtedly adjust their speed ;-)

Best to check openings hours before you go, because the bar is not always open.

Contrary to what the name "museum" suggests, this isn't a building or a domain where you can wander around and admire all sorts of bicycles. No, they make "crazy" bikes (similar to the kind you can experiment with at De Lustige Velodroom in Blankenberge) that you can rent. There's also a drinks vending machine (at d'Oude Smisse).

Beautiful forests with hardly any tourists. One fallen tree on the path and having to lift your bike up=freedom. Enjoy.

Just to rest or to refill your sugar reserves - there is definitely something for everyone (but unfortunately it is anything but cheap).
