The castle and its outbuildings will soon be taken over by companies specializing in the renovation of historical monuments. Les Amis du Château d'En Haut (non-profit organization) specializes in estate rentals, and the proceeds are redistributed to restoration projects (Pineal Project: workshops, ceremonies, product presentations, exhibitions, performances, etc.). This is stated at: www.chateaudebossuit.com When I passed by, the gate on Kasteeldreef was simply open. There was nothing to indicate that the estate was inaccessible. For example, in the garden to the left of the castle, there seemed to be the remains of a pop-up bar or some kind of public event. When I left the estate on the Doorniksesteenweg side, the automatic gate gently opened for me. When I turned around, I saw a sign saying "Private / No Access."

It was definitely worth it and it was a tough climb, but you can take a breather at the top.

Kwaremont is a charming artists' village on the slopes of the 111-meter-high Kwaremontberg. Since the 1940s, artists have been inspired by the village and the surrounding landscape. Today, you'll still find several galleries here. The whitewashed St. Amandus Church, with its neo-Baroque altar and 17th-century artwork, is also highly recommended. And if you're hungry, enjoy French-Belgian cuisine in a warm, welcoming atmosphere at restaurant 't Monument.

You can expect a varied terrain, characteristic of the Flemish Ardennes. This includes challenging gradients, rolling hills, and paths through dense forests. While some sections might be smooth, others will test your endurance with unpaved surfaces, gravel, and potentially muddy conditions, especially after rain.
Absolutely. The region is famous for its challenging climbs. For instance, routes like The Kwaremontes Gravel Route feature significant elevation gains, with nearly 900 meters of climbing over its 67 km distance. Another demanding option is the Oude Kwaremont Climb – Paterberg Climb loop from Zulzeke, which includes over 900 meters of ascent.
Many routes pass by iconic natural features and landmarks. You might encounter the famous Koppenberg and Paterberg Climb, or ride through the serene Kluisbos Forest and Muziekbos Play Forest. The Kluisberg - Mont de l'Enclus also offers scenic views.
While many routes in the Flemish Ardennes can be challenging, the 'no traffic' aspect makes certain sections safer for families. Look for routes with lower elevation gains or consider shorter loops. The region's extensive network of forest paths and rural roads provides opportunities for a more relaxed ride, though specific 'family-friendly' designations depend on the children's cycling experience.
Many natural areas and forest paths around Ronse are dog-friendly, but leash rules often apply, especially in nature reserves or areas with wildlife. It's always best to check local signage or specific regulations for the forest or park you plan to visit to ensure a pleasant and compliant experience for both you and your dog.
