Wandering Cloud
March 17, 2026, Kościół św. Doroty

The church was built here on St. Dorothy's Hill in the 17th century. Father Wojciech Lipnicki built the church with funds from his relative, Dorota Kącka, abbess of the Norbertine Sisters' convent in Zwierzyniec, Kraków. It's a beautiful church, and the views from the top are breathtaking.

History The history of the building dates back to 1635, when the parish church of St. Catherine was destroyed by fire. At that time, Fr. Wojciech Lipnicki, funded by his relative Dorota Kącka, abbess of the Norbertine Sisters' convent in Kraków's Zwierzyniec district, began construction of a branch church. The church was located atop the picturesque Transfiguration Hill, 382 meters above sea level (St. Dorothy's Hill, commonly known as Dorotka Hill), in the Grodziec district of Będzin. Following the prevailing trend of the time, the presbytery remained oriented eastward. The building was surrounded by a limestone fence built with lime-sand mortar, with a double-leaf steel gate at the entrance. On October 10, 1638, it was consecrated by Tomasz Oborski, the suffragan bishop of Kraków. Until 1730, it served as a parish church. Unfortunately, it fell into disrepair afterward. Its significant importance in the region is evidenced by subsequent reconstructions initiated by the local population. After World War II, the church underwent a thorough renovation, and in 1947, the restored church was consecrated. The last renovations took place in the second half of the 20th century and were aimed at protecting the building from mining damage. Due to its charming location, it is undoubtedly a regional landmark.
