The Mechanical Cotton Spinning and Weaving Mill Kempten (also Rosenau) is a historic, listed industrial complex on the Iller river in Kempten, which today serves as a residential and work quarter. The site, built in 1852, was revitalized by Sozialbau Kempten GmbH, which received the Bavarian Monument Preservation Prize (Silver) in 2020 for the renovation. Living: The listed brick buildings were converted into a residential complex, with the saw-tooth roof hall offering special rental loft apartments and the overall complex providing sightlines to the old town and the Iller river. Commercial: The digital startup center Allgäu Digital is housed in the listed building of the former 'Schlichterei' (a type of textile factory department), offering startups coworking spaces and infrastructure. History: The textile factory, which at times employed over 1,100 people, ceased production in 1991/92. During World War II, an external camp of the Dachau concentration camp was located in the saw-tooth roof hall. Information: Sozialbau Kempten has erected six steles on Keselstraße that document the history of the site from 1825 to the present day.
