The fieldstone church in Gerswalde is located directly on the market square in the village center. The church was built around 1250 on a hill within the village. A unique feature of the church is the checkerboard stone in the west gable, quite high above the portal. Besides the checkerboard stone, the church also features a sundial and "Feierabendsteine" (literally "evening stones"). These "Feierabendsteine" are the last bricks of the day, often decorated by the workers.

A special feature of the church is the checkerboard stone in the west gable, quite high up above the portal. In the west wall, in the foundation base, bottom left in the second layer, there is a stone built in, of which it is not known whether it has a special purpose or whether simply a previously used stone with a name engraved on it, e.g. a gravestone or memorial stone, was used.
