From 1239, Bützow was the main residence of the bishops of Schwerin. In 1248, a collegiate church was founded here, which is why the church was originally planned as a representative cathedral — unusually large for the small town.

The hose tower belongs to the equipment house of the Bützow volunteer fire department. The tower has a typical neo-Gothic brick architecture and was classically used for drying and hanging fire hoses (after deployments, they had to be hung to dry and prevent mold). The former gymnasium (built around 1900, belonging to the former Realgymnasium) was partially adapted or demolished in 2001 for the new construction/extension of the fire station. The hose tower was preserved.

The monument "Broken Millstone" in Bützow is a memorial commemorating the victims of the communist dictatorship (SBZ/DDR) in the Bützow prisons between 1945 and 1989. The sculpture symbolizes the resistance against the SED regime. The artist's message is essentially: the millstones of a dictatorial system could break the individual, but not the resistance – the millstones themselves break.

The "Krumme Haus" is one of the oldest and historically most significant buildings in Bützow. It is located at Schlossplatz 2 and today serves as a multifunctional cultural venue: city library, local history museum, and documentation center on the political abuse of the penal system. The building ensemble dates back to the 15th century and was part of the episcopal castle complex of Bützow. Originally, it served as an outbuilding and horse stable (built in the Brick Romanesque style under Bishop Nikolaus I. Böddeker). The name "Krumme Haus" probably refers to the irregular, "crooked" shape of the building or its adaptation to the existing development. Parts may even date back to the 14th century.
