March 22, 2026, Idyllic Bay of the Neyetalsperre

You can hike very well along the Neyetalsperre and always enjoy great views of the Neyetalsperre. The paths are wide enough for hikers and cyclists.

A wonderful site with a magnificent villa that once belonged to the factory owner, forest lover and hunter Fritz Hardt (1873-1959), the “Father of Dahlerau”.

While searching for a dignified burial plot for a friend, I visited the Friedwald cemetery. A truly beautiful final resting place where one can become one with nature. A path leads into the forest, where the burial trees are marked with ribbons and numbered plaques. At the entrance, there's a signpost that helps you locate the trees on a map. They also kindly provide maps to take with you, making it easier to locate trees. All graves are easily accessible via the central path and, for short stretches, over the natural ground. In some places, you can see the Bevertalsperre glimmering between the trees.

This is presumably a hunting lodge with a garden pavilion belonging to the industrialist Fritz Hardt (1873-1959), who spent much time on the nearby estate and loved hunting and tending the forest. A few hundred meters away, at the end of the forest cemetery, is the Hardt family's forest burial site, established in 1933, and a large villa overlooking the dam, which is likely Fritz Hardt's home.

This beautiful property with its manicured gardens appears unexpectedly, nestled in the heart of nature. The eye-catcher is the pavilion in the typical Bergisch style. The facade and roof are slate, white windows and decorative elements, and green shutters. I ♥️ it 👍🤩
