The reservoir had a capacity of 1500 m³ and was constructed according to a principle by Otto Intze (Intze-2-reservoir). The reservoir has a diameter of 13 m and is 11 m high. The tower became obsolete only after the commissioning of the long-distance water supply network between the Eastern Harz and the Elbe floodplain in 1965. From 1992 to 1999, the structure, which is a listed building, was renovated. It is used as the headquarters of the Association for the Preservation of Water Towers in Halle.

The tower, built of red sandstone and yellow clinker bricks, is architecturally elaborately designed and decorated. The shaft of the round tower tapers upwards and is crowned by a projecting upper storey. The tower head, executed in iron Fachwerk, is covered with slate and is in turn crowned by a lantern. The sandstone sea monsters at the foot of the structure originate from the sculptors Fr. Guth and Fr. Mänicke.

The Nord water tower in Halle (Saale) is far more than just a technical monument – it is a true landmark of industrial culture and a highlight for anyone who loves architecture with character. With its striking brick appearance and late 19th-century Neo-Gothic design, the tower is a fantastic photo opportunity. Beautiful beach on a very good cycle path where swimming is now only discouraged instead of prohibited.
