The last scheduled passenger train stopped at Geesthacht station was in 1953. The 14-kilometer-long railway line between the Hamburg districts of Bergedorf and Geesthacht, which was also part of Hamburg until 1937, was opened in 1906. In 1952, a train still ran back and forth 13 times a day. The station's decline began when the Bergedorf-Geesthacht Railway purchased buses in the 1920s, thus creating competition for itself. In 1952, the buses on this route carried almost three times as many passengers as the train. In 1953, regular train service on the line was discontinued, but the tracks remained. Today, only a few carriages, pulled by the nostalgic locomotives of the Geesthacht Railway Friends, arrive at the station very rarely – the next time is at Easter. Since 1984, a youth center has been housed in the building. The "Alter Bahnhof" youth center welcomes all young people between the ages of 6 and 27 who live in Geesthacht and the surrounding area. An easy-to-understand set of house rules helps people from all walks of life meet. https://www.ln-online.de/lokales/herzogtum-lauenburg/alter-bahnhof-geesthacht-beliebter-treffpunkt-fuer-die-jugend-ZPTBTOMGQ2XMFP5PFZOQQJ33PQ.html https://www.geesthacht.de/Leben-in-Geesthacht/Kinder-Jugendliche/Jugendzentrum-Alter-Bahnhof/
