The former steam pumping station was built in 1873. The pumping station is simple and functional in design and was built by the Anna Paulowna contractor P. Wilms. The pumping station is of general interest due to its cultural and architectural historical value. It is a largely original 19th-century pumping station in an eclectic style that was essential to the development of the Anna Paulowna polder.

On 5 June 1942, the twin-engine Wellington bomber took off from Hemswell airfield in England at 23:36. The plane was carrying a Polish crew of six. After the conquest of Poland in 1939, some members had fled to England via Hungary and France and had joined the English Bomber Command. The bomber was on a bombing mission to Essen but never reached its destination… the plane crashed on 6 June 1942 at 01:21. On the way there, it was intercepted by a German night fighter, flown by Oberleutnant Ludwig Becker of 6./NJG 2, and set on fire. The bomber continued to fly while still burning and came down at Molenweg 38, behind the farm of the J. Kuperus family. The flames from the wreckage spread to the farm, which burned down completely. The entire crew died in the crash. The crew members were buried by the occupying forces at the then military cemetery of honor in Huisduinen (municipality of Den Helder). After the war they were reburied at the Bergen op Zoom War Cemetery.
