The mill was built in 1923 after the previous mill on this site had burned down. The demolished De Hoop oil mill from Vierverlaten near Hoogkerk was used for the reconstruction. The mill became an earth mill in Kropswolde and is the only remaining earth-sailer grain mill in the province of Groningen.

The Damkerk is a hall church that was built in Hoogezand in the 17th century. Protestant worship, which emerged in the course of the 16th century, needed hall churches because the sermon was central here and the visibility of the minister was therefore of great importance. Many early Protestant churches were designed as hall churches, from Wikipedia See further: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damkerk_(Hoogezand)
