The Emaus cemetery was established in 1829 on the site of an orchard. The buildings, which acquired their current appearance in 2014, served as a coach house (left), a gravedigger's house (right), a waiting room, and a toll gatekeeper's house (due to the toll gate on the border between Vlaardingen and Vlaardinger-Ambacht). The four Vlaardingen tolls were abandoned on New Year's Eve 1930. The complex was designated a municipal monument in 2017. Source: Historical Society Vlaardingen

The oldest tree in Vlaardingen is a Dutch Linden (Tilia europaea), over three hundred years old, located along a path in 't Landje van Chardon. The old tree is a protected monument in Vlaardingen and is therefore well-maintained. Every so often, the tree is pruned back to the trunk because it can no longer support heavy branches.

At the corner of Burg. Verkadesingel and Burg. Heusdenslaan in Vlaardingen Ambacht lies "Het Landje van Chardon." This was once a farmstead owned by the Vlaardingen Chardon family of cattle farmers between 1927 and 1962. Before that, it was called "Clattenburg Farm." The path leading to the oldest tree in Vlaardingen is lined with beautiful plane trees that once formed the driveway to the farmstead.

For the past five years, walking or cycling near the Landje van Chardon in Vlaardingen – on the corner of Burgemeester Verkadesingel and Burgemeester Heusdenslaan – you've come across this unique statue, called "Passenger." The statue, created by artist Frans de Winter, symbolizes all the passersby who have witnessed the transformation of this place and its surroundings in recent years.
