East Nanjing Road is a pedestrian and shopping street. It draws the (tourist) crowds and leads straight from the People’s Square to The Bund.

One of the old gates that marks the entrance to 'Old Shanghai' (which is now waiting for re-development, as of Jan 2025) and to Yu Garden.

As of Jan 2024 the gate is still up and accessible. The surrounding houses and shops are closed and boarded up (since 2022) and waiting for re-development. Unclear if this will be demolishing and rebuilding as with many other neighborhoods, or if there are plans to restore this area and keep it 'historical' - as it was and surprisingly still is a touristic highlight.
