Wine tasting with the wines that are grown right next to it. One of the best locations in the country

Not a good climb with an e-bike and panniers. The paving is very rough and uneven, and the trail is very steep. I recommend the very nice Eurovelo 13 variant via Znojmo instead. Going in the opposite direction—downhill—is no problem. But it's better to push!

Hardegg Castle is a medieval castle near the Czech border. It is picturesquely situated above the town of Hardegg in the Thayatal National Park and is one of the best preserved castles in the region. The castle's origins date back to the 12th century, when it was built as a border fortress to protect the Duchy of Austria. The region around the Thayatal National Park offers good cycling routes with impressive views of the Thaya and the castle. Today the castle can be visited and houses a museum, which includes an exhibition on Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, who was related to the family of the castle's lords. The imposing architecture with the keep, the defensive towers and the chapel offers a fascinating insight into medieval life.
