Above Gießenbrücke, the riverbed with its predominantly gravelly bank strips and gravel banks, the near-natural alluvial forests, an alluvial forest island, near-natural swamp and bog forests, bogs and swamps, spring areas, ponds, fen areas and wet meadows, as well as numerous unspoiled, natural or near-natural erosion, deposition, and slip slopes on the valley edge with near-natural slope forests and open rock formations are described. The Argen is characterized by a steep gradient, which after the ice ages led to deeply incised valleys, gravel banks, and wooded steep slopes. Flora and fauna: Numerous rare bird and plant species find a refuge in the floodplains and on the erosion slopes.
