Universally loved and over 100 years old: The Benzinger Water Tower has always been the flagship of the small community. This makes it so indispensable for the town. It is over 100 years old, consists of 56 steps, and is the landmark of a community. We're talking about the Benzinger Water Tower, which, although it has served its purpose for water supply, is still the pride of the Winterlingen district of Benzingen. You can see the tower everywhere in the village – but not only there. The water tower is visible from afar and has long since secured its recognition and status as a historical monument. The tower has remained unchanged throughout all this time. The foundation stone of the water tower was laid in 1920, when the community of Benzingen grew and needed to upgrade its water supply. "Up until this point, Benzingen had hardly any inhabitants and was supplied with water from three dams and seven wells," explains Peter Pawtowski, the first chairman of the Benzinger Water Tower Association. Livestock farming and agriculture grew in importance in the Swabian Alb, leading to an increased demand for water in Benzingen. The wells and dams quickly became obsolete: A pump house was built in the town center in 1920, and at the same time, construction began on the water tower, which would later become Benzingen's landmark. In 1923, the water tower was completed and operational, thanks to a pipeline laid between the pump house and the tower. The tower, built in 1923, hasn't had any water for several decades. Instead, it serves as a popular backdrop for festivals, an exhibition space, and a venue for civil weddings at a lofty height. The tower is 27 meters tall. https://www.schwarzwaelder-bote.de/inhalt.benzinger-wasserturm-wahrzeichen-vorerst-im-dunkeln.08f2b501-cf92-44ba-a1e4-7b8758a8dd1d.html

Evangelical Church ⛪ - Wooden Ceiling from the 18th Century - Winterlingen - Zollernalb District The tower of the Evangelical Church, covered with enamel tiles, rises prominently above the roofs of the community of Winterlingen. Until the Reformation, the village belonged to the parish of Ebingen. Around 1300, there was already a chapel dedicated to St. Gertrude the Great. The nave was originally a simple hall building with a rectangular floor plan, which was radically altered in 1939. A portal leading from the nave to the tower from the 14th century has been preserved. The striking tower is still clearly recognizable as an original defensive structure. The interior of the building was expanded between 1974 and 1976 to include the northern aisle. The side galleries were removed, and the organ, originally placed on the west side gallery, was relocated to the inner east wall of the new extension. The wooden field ceiling contains two pieces of the earlier furnishings. They show the risen Christ (Matthew 28 par.) and the apocalyptic scene of the woman with the child (Revelation 12). The gallery paintings with depictions of the twelve apostles grouped around the Lord in the center date from the 18th century. The choir is dominated by a stained glass window by Walter Kohler, Stuttgart, from 1938. The original altar crucifix is located on the south side between the pulpit and the nave. Of the four bells, the Our Father bell dates from the 17th century. It bears the inscription: "Hans Conrad Flach von Schaffhausen gave me in the year 1650" and is richly decorated. On the baptismal bell are the words of Jesus: "Let the children come to me" and on the prayer bell one can read: "O land, land, hear the word of the Lord." The large resurrection bell is inscribed with the words of the Apostle Paul from Romans 1:10. 14: "If we live, we live to the Lord; if we die, we die to the Lord."
