Historical sources already report a church of Mary at this location around 790 AD. After the Thirty Years' War, the construction of the current building was undertaken and completed in 1678. Worth mentioning is the Vesperbild on the left side altar for the veneration of Mary as the Mother of Sorrows from the years 1515/20, which is recognized as a pilgrimage and miraculous image and is endowed with special indulgences. The tower chapel, unfortunately not always accessible, with Romanesque frescoes from the second half of the 13th century, is among the oldest Romanesque wall paintings in Upper Bavaria. The Lourdes Grotto is the name given to Marian Grottoes, which are replicas of the Grotto of Massabielle near Lourdes in southern France and Our Lady of Lourdes. In 1858, Saint Bernadette said she saw Our Lady in this grotto. At the site of the Marian apparitions, a Madonna figure adorns the grotto, the original of which Joseph-Hugues Fabisch created for Massabielle in 1864 based on Bernadette's information.
