This is not a medieval town hall, but a relatively modern administrative building. After reunification (1990s) it was redesigned, renovated and extended to make it a “modern, friendly administrative building”. In front of the town hall there are clinker sculptures of nuns – an artistic reminder of the former Cistercian nuns’ abbey from which the town originated.

Most of the shore is surrounded by forest – this makes the lake very natural and quiet. It is located in the Sternberger Seenland Nature Park and is part of a charming hilly landscape with forests, meadows, and other smaller lakes. The lake is particularly suitable for those seeking peace and quiet and nature lovers – no mass tourism like on the Baltic Sea or the large Mecklenburg lakes.

Neukloster is a small, over 780-year-old town in Northwest Mecklenburg, characterized by its former Cistercian convent Sonnenkamp (founded in the 13th century) and well-preserved historical buildings. In addition to the convent ensemble (convent church, provostry, bell tower), the townscape is primarily shaped by buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as some older half-timbered and brick houses. Many of these are protected as architectural monuments.

The city villa emerged from the conversion of a former Büdnerei. The settlement of Büdner (also called Kätner) was a decisive factor for the growth of Neukloster. Büdner were landless or small-peasant classes who owned a "Büdnerhaus" (often a small house with some garden land). City history reports that "after the settlement of the Büdner on several streets, the population increased sharply". This happened mainly after the abolition of serfdom in the early 19th century, when Neukloster was a burgeoning market town under Swedish administration (1648–1803).
