The castle is now a typical "lost place" in the Uckermark – picturesque, but heavily decayed – and is reminiscent of the region's eventful history from the Middle Ages, through Prussian manorial ownership, to the GDR era.

In the park of Hohenlandin (Uckermark, Brandenburg) there was an old well, which is now covered and out of use. Only a memorial stone with a plaque reminds of it. The legend about it is as follows: The crofter Johann Brinkmann had his property approximately where the park is today. He was a diligent but quick-tempered man. His only son Christian loved the beautiful Wendula, the daughter of his cousin Friedrich Brinkmann. One evening, when Christian and Wendula were meeting secretly, Johann found out. In his rage, he struck Wendula dead. Arriving at the well, he let the dead woman slide down, fetched planks and heavy stones, and covered the well. The next day, a great search began. Everyone participated, even old Johann, so as not to arouse suspicion. When nothing was found even after three days, the futile search was abandoned – only the great mystery remained. Slowly, old Brinkmann's son recovered. But when a year had passed and his melancholy would not leave him, old Johann confessed to his son where Wendula had gone. The next morning, he found the covering of the well removed and his son no longer there: Christian had thrown himself into the well. Soon after, old Brinkmann also died of pangs of conscience. On warm summer evenings, this person and that is said to have seen Wendula and Christian sitting on the edge of the well.
