This observation tower is hidden in the forest. On the way, I only saw a small sign. Unfortunately, it's only open on certain days of the year. There's a sign in front of the tower with this information. There's also a phone number where you can schedule an additional viewing. Besides, the Bismarck Tower looks great. The route up there is quite easy, and you don't have to accelerate much.

On the Black Mountains (76 m above sea level), 4 km southwest of the town of Salzwedel, the Bismarck Tower was built in the Old Mark architectural style in 1899 and 1900. The 20.50 m high, square tower with a footprint of 4.40 m x 4.40 m is a brick shell that was built in the Altmark architectural style. The tower foundation has a depth of 3.50 m. The tower was open all year round until spring 2010, after which it was closed to visitors. In June 2010, the Bismarck Tower was in urgent need of renovation (crumbling bricks in the lower area, tower smeared in several places). The Altmark Prussian Association, founded in 2010, campaigned for the renovation of the Bismarck Tower in April 2011. The renovation costs were estimated at 80,000 euros. The renovation of the building began in 2014 and construction work was completed in March 2015. The fenced-in and renovated Bismarck Tower reopened on April 1, 2015. The wooden steps in the bay window turret were replaced with metal steps. https://www.bismarcktuerme.net/salzwedel

There was originally a sandstone dedication tablet above the entrance with the inscription: “DEM PRINCE BISMARCK; THE FAITHFUL SERVANT OF THE GRAND EMPEROR UNTIL DEATH". To the right of the plaque is the coat of arms of Brandenburg and to the left is the coat of arms of the von Bismarck family with the cloverleaf. The Salzwedel Bismarck Tower looks back on a very checkered history. It experienced many structural changes, vandalism and structural decay, but also repeated renovations. It was closed to the public and reopened. Originally a fire basket and flag stand were attached. Text from: https://www.urania-salzwedel.de/pdf/Bismarckturm.pdf
