The Wiecker Postweg (or colloquially referred to as "Wika Postweg") owes its name to its historical function as a connecting route for mail and messenger traffic. In the past, this forest and farm track served as a direct land and postal route, through which mail, messengers, and deliveries were transported between the then difficult-to-reach villages on the Darß (such as Wieck and Born).

The Peters Kreuz (often also Peterskreuz) in the Darßer Wald is a historical crossroads and orientation point in the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. The name goes back to a path cross or forest marker previously erected there, which was named after a person named Peter (historical field crosses or markers were often named after their erectors, foresters, or local references).

Nestled in meadows and forest, the romantic little town stretches for four and a half kilometers from the Saaler Bodden in the west to the Koppelstrom on its southern side. During the season, passenger ships run daily in the direction of Prerow, Althagen, Fuhlendorf, and Bodstedt. In Born, there are several newly built modern jetties, with water sports enthusiasts being competently guided by the Born harbor master at the communal jetty. Due to a great commitment to the environment, the harbor has been awarded the European environmental predicate "Blue Flag" for several years. The harbor also possesses the "Yellow Wave" - an award from the German Tourism Association, visible from afar - and has been awarded three stars. The Darßwald (also Darßer Urwald) on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula is a forest area of around 5,800 hectares in the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park and is characterized by the following special features. The area is characterized by a unique alternation of gentle, dry, and wall-like sand ridges (Reffen) and moist lowlands (Riegen). This system was formed thousands of years ago by former beach ridge and coastal formation dynamics. On the dry Reffen, mainly pines, pedunculate oaks, and red beeches grow, while in the moist Riegen, moisture-loving alder swamp forests thrive. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dar%C3%9Fwald

The reeds of the Bodden are among the most important habitats in the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. The extensive reed belts shape the landscape and fulfill numerous ecological functions. Why does so much reed grow here? The common reed (Phragmites australis) thrives particularly well in the shallow brackish waters of the Bodden. As the waters are mostly calm with little wave action, dense reed stands can develop along the shores.
