The "Tal der Ennepe" nature reserve is a valuable, protected natural area in the Ennepe-Ruhr district in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is essentially divided into two protected areas: the larger section in the municipality of Ennepetal (approx. 70.5 hectares) and a smaller part in the municipality of Breckerfeld (approx. 9 hectares). The area protects the near-natural stream valley with its floodplains, dense riparian groves, and historic ponds.

The Ennepe originates in the Märkischer Kreis southeast of the town of Halver at an altitude of 425 m above sea level and is dammed in the town area of Breckerfeld to form the Ennepetalsperre (307 m above sea level). Its further course leads through Ennepetal, Gevelsberg and the western Hagen district of Haspe, before it flows into the Volme near Hagen main station in the Eckesey district at about 100 m above sea level, which in turn flows into the Ruhr shortly thereafter in Hagen-Vorhalle. The upper course of the Ennepe up to the Ennepetalsperre is predominantly rural, while below the dam, settlement use clearly predominates. In the lower course, its discharge is influenced by the Ennepetalsperre. https://ruhrverband.de/fluesse-seen/fluesse-baeche/ennepe/ https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ennepe

Gevelsberg and Ennepetal are two directly neighboring towns in the Ennepe-Ruhr district in North Rhine-Westphalia. They are located in the charming transitional area between the industrially shaped southern Ruhr area and the green hill ranges of the Sauerland. As they merge seamlessly into each other, they share not only a closely interwoven history but even a common train station: the Ennepetal (Gevelsberg) station. Although both towns grew up through the metal industry along the river Ennepe, today they offer very distinct, exciting facets for visitors and locals.

Does anyone know if the photo with the sign about overgrown vegetation and the path's poor accessibility is current? I'd be interested to know if the path is in good condition or perhaps no longer passable.

The well-known enclosure for fallow deer and bleating goats. It's really well-maintained and cared for.

Over hill and dale. Big thanks to the people who made sure our feet were dry. But be careful... In winter or after heavy rain, the path is quite flooded, and it's hard to get away with dry feet.

Nature as far as the eye can see, in summer when everything is green, an absolute recommendation
