The half-timbered houses in the Middle Franconian town of Spalt, with their high gables and special "hop architecture", shape the historic townscape.

The distinctive, high-gabled half-timbered houses with up to five floors are not a matter of architectural fashion, but were solely used for drying hop cones. The opened gable shutters and dormer windows allowed optimal air circulation. To this day, the high-gabled houses characterize the townscape of Spalt.

It was a nice day with the family. Good parking with a starting point for many nice tours. It is also good to climb in the gorge and there is a lot to discover and a nice picnic spot. I will gladly come again.
