"In memory of our liberators" On the night of May 30, 1943, an English Lancaster bomber was on its way back from Germany to its home base in Waddington Lincolnshire, England. This bomber was set on fire by a German fighter near Castenray. The plane crashed nearby, burning. Six crew members lost their lives. This monument was placed in April 2011 by the Castenray Local History Society Foundation. It was made by sculptor Martin Ooink from Venray. (Information board on site)

At the Schadijk in Meterik, at the intersection of Schadijkerweg and Kempweg, lies a simple brick chapel. It has a slate roof. On the front facade stands a wrought iron cross. In front of the entrance is a low iron gate. Inside the chapel, in a niche behind glass, stands a statue of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Above it is the inscription: "O.L.V. Onbplekken Ontvangen B.V.O.". This means pray for us. In front of the niche are a kneeler and two wooden candle stands. On either side of the chapel stands a lime tree. The chapel was built in 1935 or 1936 on the occasion of a people's mission. The initiators were Handrie Steeghs and Piet Weys. The entire Schadijker community agreed to the construction and everyone contributed. The land was donated by the widow De Mulder in Swolgen. (Landscape Horst aan de Maas)
