The white spheres are actually inflatable balloons made of Kevlar and are meant to protect the satellites. Kevlar consists of arimids, fibers that form a group of polymers. This makes the spheres heat-resistant and ensures they have high tensile strength. Kevlar is also used in bulletproof vests, among other things. Want to know more? Double houses, respectively town hall and parsonage, of seven bays and two floors under a hipped roof (tiles). Rectangular windows with lintels and drip sills of bluestone. Bluestone door frame crowned with a drip moulding supported by consoles; the window above also with a frame and drip moulding of bluestone. The town hall was, apparently when the street was widened, shortened by two bays, which damages the symmetry of the square wall. Minister Hilde Crevits (CD&V) recently planted the first of twenty thousand trees that will be planted in Flanders in Gooik. In total, De Lijn will plant eight forests in Flanders. The forest in Gooik will partly become a play forest for young people. Last year, the transport company De Lijn sold 20,000 forest passes, for each forest pass De Lijn donated one euro to the campaign '1 million trees for Flanders', together good for the purchase of 20,000 trees. Minister of Mobility Hilde Crevits recently came to Gooik to plant the first lime tree there. "The future of De Lijn must be green, it is a good thing to plant these trees, a new pearl for Gooik", said Minister Crevits. Director General Roger Kesteloot of De Lijn said that a record of 4,700 forest passes were sold in Flemish Brabant last year. “All together, the forest pass will provide 20,000 new trees, which together will be enough for 14 football fields of new forest. In total, we will plant eight forests in Gooik, Harelbeke, Oostkamp, Evergem, Belsele, Merchtem, Opwijk and Zemst,” says Kesteloot. The new lime trees, oaks, beeches, ash trees, maples and birches that were planted in the Frankrijkstraat in Oetingen were given the name Klauwaertbos. Part of the forest will be used as a play forest in the future. Source: Editiepajot: Gooik

The Sint-Ursmaruskerkis (St. Ursmarus Church) was built between 1858 and 1859 in a simple and uniform neo-Gothic style. The construction partially utilized materials from the old parish church in Oude Plaats. Together with the rectory and the former town hall, which were built in a neoclassical style, the brick church and its adjacent cemetery form an architectural ensemble that dominates the eastern side of Kerkplein (Church Square). The decision to build the church, and later relocate it to the current town center, was the result of a historic discussion within the Oeting community. Mayor J.B. Seghers and Pastor Egidius Puyenbroeck played a crucial role in this shift.
