August 17, 2026, Berliner Turm Burg

The Berliner Turm is a listed tower of the historical city fortifications of the town of Burg. It stands on the north side of Berliner Straße, east of Burg's town center, was built in the 14th century from fieldstones and belonged as a gate tower to the Berliner Tor. The gate, also known as Liebfrauentor, was demolished in 1806, but the round tower was preserved. In the middle of its height, it has two layers of brick. The tower is crowned by a wreath also made of brick. Inside the tower, remnants of the beginnings of ribbed vaults can be found. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berliner_Turm_(Burg_bei_Magdeburg)

The Burg bei Magdeburg train station is located in the northwest of the city and was opened in 1846 on the Berlin–Magdeburg railway line. The facility is a through station with three platforms and several listed buildings, including the station building, a water tower, and a crane system. Between 1896 and 1965, the transshipment station of the Jerichower Kleinbahnen also existed about 500 m from the main station. During this time, further freight facilities, connections, and an expansion of the station building were built. After the closure of the local railway, the main line was modernized several times. The station forecourt received an award in 1999 as "the most beautiful in Saxony-Anhalt". https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahnhof_Burg_(b_Magdeburg)

The Catholic Parish Church of St. John the Baptist is the central Catholic place of worship in Burg bei Magdeburg and is protected as an official monument. The neo-Gothic brick building was erected between 1904 and 1906. The solemn consecration took place on May 20, 1908, by the Bishop of Paderborn. A special work of art inside is the organ built in 1911 by the company Anton Feith jun., which is under monument protection with 21 registers and 1,150 pipes. After losses in the World Wars, the church has had a complete set of bells again since 1956. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Johannes_der_T%C3%A4ufer_(Burg)

Between the K1209 east of Rogätz and Blumenthal, the lane at the foot of the dike and the cycle path on the dike crest will be resurfaced starting in October 2025. The closure is likely to be temporary. Feel free to add a comment as soon as the route is clear again. A detour via Burg is possible.

The cycle path is very narrow and sometimes a bit difficult to navigate on a road bike due to roots and slight ruts. Always ride slowly here. A gravel bike is actually much better here.

June 25: Several kilometers of dike construction site between Rogätz and Parey, with a little skill and thick tires you can avoid a grassy path at the riverside foot of the dike.
