Michael (mimirsbrunnen)
December 21, 2025, Schlosskirche Hohenzieritz

The church was built as part of the expansion of the castle complex under Duke (later Grand Duke) Carl II of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1741–1816). Hohenzieritz Castle served him as a summer residence and was developed into a prestigious estate from the 1770s onwards, including an English landscape park (one of the oldest on the continent).

Hohenzieritz Castle in the Mecklenburg Lake District is an early neoclassical building with great historical significance. Originally built as a manor house in the 18th century, it was rebuilt and expanded under Duke Carl II of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. It became famous primarily because Queen Louise of Prussia died here on July 19, 1810. Her death chamber is now accessible as a memorial. The extensive castle park, one of the oldest landscaped gardens in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is also particularly charming. It was laid out in the English style starting in 1771. With monuments such as the Luisentempel (St. Louis Temple) and its open layout, it offers impressive views of the surrounding hilly landscape. Today, Hohenzieritz Castle is not only a memorial to Queen Louise, but also the administrative headquarters of the Müritz National Park and a worthwhile destination for those interested in culture and nature.

August 27, 2025, Prillwitz Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prillwitz is a remarkable example of regional architectural history. The original nave dates back to the Middle Ages, while in the 18th century a half-timbered church was built, presumably on the foundations of the previous building. At the end of the 19th century, the church received a new tower in the Neo-Gothic style, the half-timbered walls were replaced with masonry, and the exterior plastering was renewed. The interior is simple, with a late Gothic pulpit and an altar from the early 16th century. The organ was built by Barnim Grüneberg in 1892 and restored in 2014, making it an important instrument in the region. Prillwitz is picturesquely situated in the Tollense Basin of the Mecklenburg Lake District.

The park offers numerous views, vistas, and benches. It's an oasis of tranquility in nature, surrounded by gnarled trees and abundant greenery. In severe weather conditions, such as storms or strong winds, the park may be temporarily closed.

The village church, which is essentially Gothic, was supplemented with a neo-Gothic tower in 1894.
