The foundation stone of the current neo-Gothic church was laid on June 21, 1857. The church building was consecrated on September 19, 1859, by Bishop Johann Georg Müller. In 1984, the church was added to the list of historical monuments in Lippetal. It was most recently renovated both inside and out in a six-month construction phase at the end of 2009. The roof of the church was also replaced in 2014. In 2016, the church square and the area around the church were redesigned.
