Wojciech Winnik
September 21, 2024, St. Lawrence Church, Dynów

The late Renaissance church of St. Lawrence from the beginning of the 17th century was rebuilt in 1663 and restored in the years 1891-1894. The freestanding bell tower dates back to the end of the 18th century. The brick fence with the Renaissance gate dates back to 1663. In the north-eastern part of the Market Square stands the monument to King Władysław Jagiełło, built by the community of Dynów in 1910 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald. There was a huge demonstration of townspeople in ceremonial, traditional folk costumes, with peacock feathers in their hats, on horses. The fire brigade orchestra and the "Sokół" society in very beautiful uniforms also took part in this solemn ceremony. The monument survived the occupation period only because in the autumn of 1939 the plaque with the inscription "To the Great King Władysław Jagiełło the city of Dynów" was erased with mortar, and the monument was said to represent the king, Saint Władysław. The linden tree stands near the tower, in the corner of the church square. Only part of the mighty tree remains, missing the branches that grew towards the church entrance. Despite this, the rest of the tree's crown is green with lots of leaves. WW

The monument stands in the church square. The figure of Pope John Paul II is facing west. It looks best in the light of the setting sun, as in the attached photo. WW

"Lodowa Pokusa" is a brand of ice cream parlors with a production plant in Rzeszów and sales points in Dynów, Błażowa, Boguchwała and Sokołów Małopolski. Ice cream of their own production is not sold outside their own network. In Dynów, there are three sales points on the market: two closer to the church and one on the opposite side of the market next to the pharmacy. There is little space for consumption in the premises, the second sells through a window, but a few tables have been prepared under the gazebo on the market square from the church side. Surprised by such a number of points in a small town, I asked if they have a market for their products. The answer was yes - in the season from May and during the holidays, sales last until 8:30 p.m. and at the end of the season in September until 6:30 p.m. We ordered an ice cream dessert for PLN 19.90 in a waffle cup with strawberries, raspberries and whipped cream, two large scoops of ice cream - Malaga with rum and green pistachio with a slightly salty aftertaste (see photos). There were four of us and everyone liked it, and the portions are generous. WW

Very clayey soil. Hard to walk on in wet/damp weather because the sole of the shoe immediately becomes clogged and you start to slip.

Open field, so quite windy. At the same time it's nice to rest and have a picnic and let your eyes wander because you have a great view of the landscape here.
