The German narrator and poet Reinhold BRAUN (1879-1959) recommended in the following poem a deep, blissful summit rest for the mountain hiker: „Some climb mountains in a hurry and take too short a summit rest and see neither beauty nor sunshine, they just want to have been 'up there', and return with everyday senses and outlook to the valleys of life. Do you truly want to be blessed, your soul to wander bright and pure: Enjoy what you have hiked, in a deep, blissful summit rest!“

Beautiful landscape from an old castle, the hike to reach this place is pretty good too!

These ruins are in quite good shape. Walking around is possible. The paths create a maze inside of the ruins which is exciting and at the same time confusing.

Nice hill walks, there's also the ruins of an old castle to check out not far from here, quite nice. Write ur name on the hill book when you get to the top! 😎

Anyway, this summit is worth a visit! Fantastic view far into the country. And of course the summit cross, that looks really great and compensates for the climb!

Yes, Bežnisko features several easy routes perfect for families with younger children. While some paths might be sandy due to the unique terrain, routes like the Plavecký Castle Ruins – Na Bubne loop from Pohanská offer a gentle introduction to the area. For strollers, it's advisable to check individual route descriptions for surface conditions, as some sandy sections might be challenging.
While there are no specific highlights listed in the immediate area, the region itself is a protected landscape known for its Pannonian Inland Dunes, heathlands with species like Calluna vulgaris, and diverse forest types. Keep an eye out for the unique xerophilous and forest-steppe communities that thrive in this special environment. Historic sites like the Plavecký Castle Ruins are also accessible on some routes, such as the Plavecký Castle Ruins – Studnička Spring loop from Pohanská.
Yes, many of the family-friendly trails in Bežnisko are designed as circular routes, making them convenient for day trips. Reviewers often praise the unique natural landscapes, the tranquility of the forests, and the opportunity to discover the distinctive Pannonian Inland Dunes. The variety of trails, from easy walks to more challenging hikes, is also frequently highlighted.
While the region is a Protected Area, many trails within the broader Záhorie Protected Landscape Area are generally dog-friendly. However, as Bežnisko is also part of a Military District, it's crucial to keep dogs on a leash and respect any specific signage or regulations you encounter to protect the sensitive ecosystems and wildlife. Always ensure your dog is under control.
Given the presence of heathlands and diverse forests, spring and autumn are often ideal for family hikes in Bežnisko. The temperatures are milder, and the natural colors are vibrant. Summer can also be pleasant, but be prepared for potentially warmer conditions, especially on exposed sandy sections. Always check local weather forecasts before heading out.
For families with older children or those seeking a bit more adventure, there are moderate routes available. The Kršlenica Summit – Deravá Skala Cave loop from Plavecký Mikuláš offers a longer distance and more elevation gain, providing a rewarding experience with interesting natural features like the Deravá Skala Cave.
Specific parking information varies by trailhead. For routes starting near Pohanská or Plavecký Mikuláš, you will typically find designated parking areas in or near the villages. It's always recommended to check the starting point details of your chosen route on komoot for the most accurate parking information.
Given the sandy terrain and diverse habitats, we recommend packing plenty of water, snacks, and appropriate footwear (closed-toe shoes are best). Sun protection is important, especially on more open sections. A small first-aid kit, a map or GPS device (like komoot!), and binoculars for wildlife spotting will also enhance your family's experience.
