The obelisk of this war memorial is crowned by an eagle, the proud heraldic animal of many nations. The dialect group „Bläck Fööss“ from Cologne (North Rhine-Westphalia, DE) has written a song about a memorial for fallen soldiers in the Südstadt of Cologne, which is also crowned by an eagle. The text by Hans Knipp reads: „Doch sulang dä Adler steit op däm Stein, sulang es et jot, den dann als hä domols floch, jo do braat hä nur Elend un Nut. Here you'll find the world's largest Uhudler grape. From a roughly 200-year-old oak tree that grew right here on the square, artist Günter Friedrich created this artwork with his chainsaw in 2021. The oak had been so badly damaged in a storm that felling it was being considered to protect the surrounding houses. This project essentially breathed new life into the tree and made felling unnecessary.
