Brandenkopf Lookout Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

The stone observation tower is the trademark of the Brandenkopf. The 32-meter-high tower has been there since 1929 and you can climb it all year round. Donations are requested. The Brandenkopf takes its name from a large forest fire in 1730. Before that, the mountain was called Varnlehenskopf. The view from the 945-meter-high mountain is spectacular. If the visibility is really good, you can even see the Vosges.

Next to the observation tower you will also find the mountain inn. In addition to a large beer garden, there is also a playground for children to romp around in. Tuesday and Wednesday are days off. You can find more information here: brandenkopf.net.

Holy Well and Rudolfus Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The Holy Well and St. Rudolf's Chapel are a beautiful spot. It's here that a butcher's apprentice is said to have murdered a hermit during the Thirty Years' War. A spring sprang up where the hermit's blood reached the ground. Children wishing for a sibling can place a homemade wooden cross in the Holy Grotto, and their wish will come true.

Immediately after descending from the Urenkopf, you pass the "Three Holy Fountains." First, however, you see the Rudolfus Chapel. Right next to it, water flows through the fountains. Steps lead through the sloping terrain.

The Stations of the Cross conclude, beginning at the Red Cross. An old hermitage, now a chapel, is located at an ancient spring believed to have healing powers. A beautiful section of the trail leading up to the Urenkopf.

We too can only recommend the Felsenweg, which we walked all by ourselves. The loneliness was probably due to the overcast sky and the season - but beautiful!
