August 4, 2024, Setzensack Memorial

The Landshut sculptor Karl Reidel created the memorial at Setzensack, which commemorates 67 deaths in a Protestant old people's and nursing home in Tormersdorf on the Neisse. 400 residents of this home fled from the Soviet army in February 1945 and spent weeks travelling in freight wagons. In the end, around 100 of them arrived in Landshut and finally found accommodation in the old, disused brewery of the castle in Deutenkofen on Good Friday, March 30, 1945. Weakened by the illness and the strain of the escape, a total of 67 of them died there between now and 1949. The dead were registered at the Adlkofen registry office. Since the church cemetery in Adlkofen was overcrowded, an alternative plot had to be found. The mayors of Adlkofen and Deutenkofen agreed to bury the dead on a meadow in Setzensack. To this day, the municipality of Adlkofen commemorates the dead from Thormersdorf every year on Remembrance Day at the Setzensack memorial.

Continuing south, we soon reached today's geotope. 14. Former Großmaulburg gravel pit near Vilsbiburg > significant “The sediments exposed in the former gravel pit are placed in the Moldanubian Series of the Upper Upper Freshwater Molasse. The pit is completely overgrown except for two smaller outcrops. Previously, on the former mining wall, cylindrical cavities in the sediment could be seen in diagonally layered sands (leading to feldspar and biotite, with iron hydroxide impregnations), which indicated embedded driftwood. Leaf flora was found in clay lenses” (Environmental Atlas of Bavaria)

Old linden tree at the fork in the road to Zeiling. The linden tree at the fork in the road to Zeiling, which is over 200 years old, is not only an important habitat for birds and insects. The deciduous tree with a trunk diameter of around 1.2 meters and a crown diameter of 21 meters stores around 10 tonnes of the greenhouse gas CO2 in the trunk, branches and roots and thus makes an important contribution to climate protection.

The tower hill Diemannskirchen is a medieval tower hill castle (Motte) about 700 meters southwest of the Catholic church St. Margaretha von Diemannskirchen and districts of the municipality Geisenhausen in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut in Bavaria. No historical or archaeological information is known about this castle, it is roughly dated to be medieval. From the complex on the edge of a steep slope to the Little Vils Valley, only a castle hill and a trench have survived. The castle site is protected as a ground monument "Medieval Tower Hill".
