October 12, 2026, Historic Brick Building Near the Castle

At the end of Breiten Straße stands the orphanage, a two-story red brick building in the Dutch architectural style. Out of joy over the birth of the heir to the throne Karl Emil and in fulfillment of a vow, the Electress founded an orphanage for 24 children in 1665. Above the entrance door is the coat of arms of the House of Orange. Today, the former orphanage is the seat of the Oberhavel district's public health office. The cycle path is still in a condition suitable for road bikes. The safe entry at the end of Marwitz leads in the right-hand curve past a stiled gate into a side street and then immediately turns 90 degrees to the right.
