Very rocky, not easy to walk hiking trail. But the path is relatively well marked. Quite challenging with multi-day luggage. Sturdy shoes and sure-footedness are absolutely necessary

Cliffside Beach Path

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The beach is partly passable, but partly broken away. The cliff is so steep that for about 60m the only path is through the water. I carried my backpack and bike while wading chest deep in the sea. Loved it!

April 28, 2025, The Mule's Leap (To Pigadi Tis Moulas)

On the way to the village of Sokraki, there is a cliff, which is called "The Mule's Leap" because, legend has it that a young woman named Agiro, daughter of a baron of the region, returning from the village of Valaneio with her mule saw her city burning. Desperate and distressed, she blindfolded her mule and herself and proceeded blindly along the narrow path where they fell together over the cliff.

Incredibly beautiful place. A staircase, which is currently in a dangerous state of disrepair, leads to a great little bay for swimming.

Great canal that seems to be a tourist magnet. The bizarrely eroded rocks are really incredibly beautiful to look at.

Beautiful bay, which can be reached via a small, albeit dilapidated, wooden staircase.

Highlights include the unique sandstone formations of Canal of Love and dramatic viewpoints like The Mule's Leap.

Are there any famous natural formations or 'gorges' on Corfu island itself?

Yes, Corfu offers several notable natural formations. The Canal of Love in Sidari is famous for its yellow sandstone rocks and the legend that two people swimming across will love each other forever. While not a traditional canyon, areas like Agni Bay and Cape Drastis also feature picturesque settings and dramatic cliffs.

What are some challenging trails or gorge-like hikes on Corfu?

For those seeking a challenge, the Rocky section between Kontogialos and Glyfada offers a very rocky hiking trail that requires sturdy shoes and sure-footedness. Another adventurous option is the Cliffside Beach Path, which can be partly broken away and may require wading through the sea during certain sections.

Yes, The Mule's Leap (To Pigadi Tis Moulas) is a viewpoint with a spectacular valley below, known for a local legend involving a princess named Argyro and her mule. The area also features the ruins of the Byzantine church of Agios Theodoros and an old Venetian bridge at the bottom of the ravine.

What are the best times to visit Corfu's gorge-like areas and coastal trails?

The best time to visit Corfu's natural attractions is typically during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant for hiking and exploring, and the crowds are smaller.
