Prachovské skály is a sandstone rock area, a nature reserve and part of the Bohemian Paradise Protected Landscape Area, which extends roughly 5 to 7 km northwest of Jičín between Prachov, Pařezská Lhota, Dolní Lochov and Blata in the Hradec Králové Region. The rock massif was formed in the Mesozoic era from deposits of a shallow Cretaceous sea. The protected area is under the care of AOPK ČR – Liberec regional workplace.

Up to forty meters high rock towers, narrow alleys, a labyrinth of gorges, ravines, chasms, gullies, sloping corridors, needles, viewpoints – all this characterizes the most visited place near the town of Jičín, Prachovské skály.

In the period of Slavic settlement of the rocks, there is an extensive system of fortification of the rock town - the entire landscape was surrounded by a system of ramparts, in some places there are documented traces of extensive fires that prove the conquest of the rock fortification. According to the pottery, the fire is dated to the 10th century, i.e. to the time when the Přemyslids were consolidating their position in the Bohemian basin.

Prachov Rocks and their surroundings are a place with a rich history. The beginnings of settlement can be traced back to antiquity - we find evidence of the presence of people from the Neolithic period here. On the plateau called Starý hrádek, we observe settlement from the Bronze Age, when a settlement was founded here. Finds of bronze clasps come from the settlement. Traces of Celtic settlement can also be found here.

One of the many viewpoints on the Great Circuit in the Prachov Rocks is Haken's Viewpoint. It was named in honor of Professor Haken from nearby Horní Lochov, who conducted archaeological research in the rocks.
