Patchellhytta at 818 metres (2,684 ft), is beautifully set among dramatic peaks. Built by Charles Watson Patchell in 1920, it was restored and expanded in 1970. For Patchell, the hut embodied the Norwegian ‘Friluftsliv’, literally meaning: Free-Air-Life, the Scandinavian philosophy of following an outdoor lifestyle.

This traditional red wooden cabin serves as a welcoming refuge for hikers and skiers exploring the surrounding mountain trails. Since the farms in the village were very small, in summer the remote areas had to be used as pastureland. Every year the cows were driven to grazing in the summer and milked there in the morning and in the evening. The pastures were so far from the village that alms were built as accommodation for the milkmaids. The old farmhouses of Haukås were restored in the 1990s and are witness to a bygone era.
