Beautiful place, you can walk in the gorge and the next day go up from the Sibilla refuge to see the gorge from above. Unfortunately when we went there was too much water and we couldn't get over the river (it would have taken more determination than ours) so we did a very short tour that is not a loop.

Paradise Gorge would be a more appropriate name 🙂. In a torrid summer the perfect place! To see and see again. You can continue with various paths.

The most popular and spectacular gorge is Infernaccio Gorge, carved by the Tenna River. It features towering limestone cliffs, waterfalls, and the Church of San Leonardo. Another highly regarded spot is the Hidden Waterfall (Monti Sibillini National Park), known for its beauty, though the final stretch is challenging.
You can expect dramatic natural features such as towering limestone cliffs, river-carved gorges, and various waterfalls and cascades, like those found at Stretta delle Pisciarelle. The region also features unique eroded landscapes known as Calanchi di Moglietta, which create a canyon-like environment from clayey soil.
Yes, within the Infernaccio Gorge, you can find the Church of San Leonardo, built by Padre Pietro, a Capuchin friar. Additionally, near Amandola, there's a 13th-century Romanesque humpback bridge over a small canyon carved by the Tenna River, associated with a local miracle.
Hiking trails vary in difficulty. The main path through Infernaccio Gorge is generally suitable for various skill levels. However, some sections, like the last 300 meters to the Hidden Waterfall, are described as particularly challenging, steep, narrow, and full of brambles, requiring appropriate footwear.
Some areas are suitable for families, particularly the main path through Infernaccio Gorge. However, certain trails, such as the final stretch to the Hidden Waterfall, are explicitly noted as not suitable for children due to their challenging and impervious nature.
The best periods to visit the gorges and canyons, especially Infernaccio Gorge, are spring and summer. During warmer months, the shaded woodlands and river offer a refreshing experience. Be aware that heavy rain can cause rockfalls in certain areas, as noted by visitors to the Infernaccio Gorge – Protected Floral Area.
Beyond exploring the canyons, the Amandola region offers diverse outdoor activities. You can find numerous MTB trails, cycling routes, and road cycling routes. These guides provide options ranging from moderate to difficult, allowing you to explore the wider Monti Sibillini National Park area.
While not explicitly designated as swimming spots, the Tenna River, which carves through gorges like Infernaccio Gorge and Stretta delle Pisciarelle, offers refreshing waters. Visitors have described Infernaccio Gorge as a 'perfect place' in summer, suggesting the possibility of enjoying the cool river.
Visitors frequently praise the stunning natural beauty, particularly the dramatic cliffs and refreshing waters of Infernaccio Gorge, often calling it 'Paradise Gorge'. The combination of shaded paths, waterfalls, and the unique cultural element of the Church of San Leonardo also contributes to a highly valued experience.
For Infernaccio Gorge, visitor tips suggest not parking in the initial parking lot but continuing on the unpaved path until you reach a checkpoint, which is closer to the start of the main route.
As part of the Monti Sibillini National Park, the canyons are home to diverse flora and fauna. While specific wildlife sightings in the gorges are not detailed, the park is known for its rich biodiversity, including various bird species, mammals, and unique plant life, especially in protected areas like the Infernaccio Gorge – Protected Floral Area.
While Infernaccio Gorge is well-known, the Hidden Waterfall (Monti Sibillini National Park), despite its challenging access, offers a beautiful and perhaps less frequented natural spectacle. The unique eroded landscape of the Calanchi di Moglietta also presents an 'incredible landscape' that might be considered a hidden gem.
The duration of excursions varies. A visit to Infernaccio Gorge and the Hermitage of San Leonardo can be a significant experience. If you choose to continue to the Hidden Waterfall, be prepared for a longer and more challenging journey, especially the final stretch.
