Seedorf Castle is a great photo opportunity. It's privately owned, and therefore neither tours nor entry to the entire complex are permitted. It's a shame, but also understandable.

A bit out of the way but very nice "castle", which is actually the former manor house of the Seedorf estate on the Schaalsee.

When I drove by there, a large number of cranes were resting at the castle. A quiet, almost lonely area with many beautiful views

Schloss Seedorf is the former manor house of the old noble estate Seedorf on the Schaalsee lake. It is picturesquely situated directly on the lake shore in the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein. The striking building is built in the Neo-Renaissance style and is nestled in an idyllic landscape park. The current castle was built between 1891 and 1893 for Ida von Witzendorff. It was designed by the architect Ernst Möller, who is also known, among other things, for the construction of Schwerin's main train station. Rather unusual for the region, the two-story building impresses with the expressive formal language of the Neo-Renaissance, with richly decorated gables and bay windows. The historic estate itself looks back on a long tradition and was owned by renowned noble families for centuries. The castle has been lovingly restored, but it is privately owned. As it is privately inhabited or used, it cannot be visited publicly from the inside. From the lake shore, the adjacent park, and during hikes around the Seedorfer Werder, the building offers an excellent photo spot and eye-catcher. www.tourbee.de/schleswig-holstein/lauenburg/seedorf_lauenburg.html

A highlight on this route in Seedorf - we have been coming back here gladly for decades. Schloss Seedorf was built in 1891/93 as a "fitting" widow's residence for Ida von Witzendorff by architect Ernst Möller. After her death, the ownership changed frequently. In 1993, the castle was placed under monument protection. www.tourbee.de/schleswig-holstein/lauenburg/seedorf_lauenburg.html
