barbecue hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Laufersweiler offers a beautifully located, well-kept barbecue hut on the Idarbach for large and small parties. The hut can be rented for celebrations, information can be obtained from the local mayor on 06543/3256.
There is also a water treading basin in the immediate vicinity of the grill hut.
In the summer of 1928 the "Idarbad" outdoor pool was built here. With relatively few resources, the Idarbach was dammed, creating a pool with around 3,000 m² of water. In order to be able to control the flow of water, the actual stream was diverted around the bath.
In the 1940s, the dam broke due to ice and frost. The dam wall had wooden planks that dammed the water in summer. Actually, these were removed in winter so that the water could drain away. After the dam wall broke, it was not rebuilt and the outdoor pool fell into disrepair.
In the mid-1990s, the barbecue hut was built on the foundations of the missing changing room.

Halfway up the forests of the Briedel Switzerland hiking area lies the Hindenburglay lookout point. A small pavilion sits enthroned on a rocky outcrop that protrudes from the steep, wooded slope of the narrow Moselle bend at Zeller Hamm.

Only the narrow hiking trails provide access to this magnificent spot. We sit quietly in the shade of old oak trees and enjoy the view down to the Moselle flowing past, with its vine-covered steep slopes and the houses of Briedel nestled in the narrow valley, while a flag flutters gently in the breeze above us.

The pavilion was built in 1927 by the Eintracht Briedel men's choir and has been maintained ever since by the mixed choir. It serves as a shelter at the center of the hiking trails established in 1926. It was named Hindenburglay in memory of the great Reich Chancellor.

The recreational area consists of a 200 square meter rustic wooden shelter. There is a spacious covered barbecue area in the immediate vicinity. Users also have access to solid sanitary facilities. In an adjoining room there is a counter with a sink with hot and cold running water and a refrigerator. Other facilities include marquee furniture and mobile windows for the shelter. Thanks to the power connection and permanently installed lighting, your event does not have to end when darkness falls. The large parking and camping area round off the offer. The rental fees for public commercial events are €120, private events cost €60. Local users only pay half the rental costs. Electricity and water are billed separately according to consumption. When using the barbecue, an additional cleaning fee of €10 is charged. Of course, the site and its facilities must be left completely clean. A deposit of €60 is charged for security. Hindenburglay Viewpoint and refuge In the middle of the forests of the Briedeler Schweiz hiking area, halfway up the mountain, lies the Hindenburglay viewpoint. A small pavilion sits on the rocky spur that protrudes from the steep, wooded slope of the narrow Moselle bend of the Zeller Hamm. Only the narrow hiking trails provide access to this wonderful spot. We sit in complete silence in the shade of old oak trees and enjoy the view down to the Moselle flowing past with its steep slopes covered in vines and the houses of Briedel crouching in the narrow valley, while a flag flutters gently in the wind above us. The pavilion was built in 1927 by the Eintracht Briedel men's choir and has been maintained by the mixed choir ever since. It serves as a refuge in the center of the hiking trails that were laid out in 1926. It was given the name Hindenburglay in memory of the great Reich Chancellor. April 10, 2023, Rotzekopp Hut

On the municipal border between Pilmeroth and Emmeroth, for example, you pass the Rotzekopp Hut on the Moselsteig Trail, a side trip to the parish's valley tour. The trail leads up along a beautiful, narrow path. Built in 1973 by the volunteer fire departments of both villages, it can now be rented for events after renovations in 2001. The complex consists of several fire pits and huts, as well as a stage. A campsite is located right next to it. The site on Rotzekopp is called the Kaisergarten (Emperor's Garden). Therefore, some of the seating areas on the grounds face the "Kaisereiche" (Emperor's Oak). Many locations and trees (especially the "German" oak) were dedicated to the German Emperor and the German Empire at the end of the 19th century. These names are gradually disappearing as many old oak trees reach the end of their lives and are felled.
